Cervical Smear text scam (18th May 2020)

We have been advised by Public Health England of reports of a possible scam.  Some women are being contacted by text message, with the sender claiming to be from the call and recall service to advise they are overdue for screening. The message asks them to call a mobile number and provide personal details.  These messages are not from the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.  Please let us know if you receive such a text.

The Action Fraud line has been contacted.

The practice may text you to remind you your smear is due and ask you to make an appointment, but we would never ask you to reveal personal information or telephone us on a telephone number that isn't the main practice number.

Review of Cherry Hinton and Brookfields Medical Centre

Cherry Hinton and Brookfields Medical Centre are pleased to announce the commencement of a review that will examine ways to improve our provision of services to patients.

Recent changes to the NHS have identified opportunities for us to streamline the way we run the practice and to consider how we can best meet the needs of all our patients. Increased patient demand and additional “asks” of GP practices are likely to be a key feature of our future.

We decided we would take this opportunity for a review to look at the way we currently work to see if we can make improvements for our patients and our staff. One recent significant change to the NHS was the introduction of Primary Care Networks across the country in July of this year. Those Networks will allow GP practices in our local area to work together and to identify ways we can better share resources and improve services across the local patient population.

While there will be no immediate change in the way services are provided, we will need to examine the way we organise and undertake our work. Our review is likely to quickly identify things we will want to examine, explore and discuss with staff, stakeholders and patients. We will want to introduce improvements to help our efficiency and performance as quickly as possible and in a planned way. We will undertake discussion with staff about new ways of working by involving the whole team as well as established patient engagement channels.

The Partners look forward to this review and to the improved services we will deliver as a result.

Flu jab scam - if someone asks for payment over the telephone

If someone claiming to be from the NHS contacts you by telephone and asks for payment, please be aware they could be a criminal trying to trick you. Most NHS services are free at the point of use and NHS professionals are very unlikely to ask for fees such as prescription charges / flu jab administration over the telephone.  We advise you not to share bank account details or other financial information unless you are sure of who you are talking to.
